My philosophy in my art always comes down to the basic thought that everything is unique but part of each other. The world around us seems to unfold into organic shapes as seen in everyday life. All shapes and energy repeat themselves in the world. I have stated to abstract images into simple organic forms that resemble shapes seen in the ocean and in nature. The current series of paintings represents the flow and rhythms of life. I have simplified my paintings so the true essence of color and shape are pronounced.
My artwork is process oriented. I start with either plaster or matt medium to create a relief on the canvas or watercolor paper. The medium resists the paint and adds a new dimension to the canvas. Then I mix my colors with water and pour them onto a flat canvas so the color soaks into the paper. I create a canvas that speaks and moves to a rhythm like a dance set to music. When I reach a point where the color and images are in balance I consider my canvas complete. The images create intrigue, expression and mystery. It is up to the viewer to discover what lies beneath the painting, some paintings have written words to depict a specific emotion. Everyone relates to the information in front of him or her in a personal way.
