I had just returned to my studio from a retrospective of Mondrian’s work at the Museum of Modern Art. After returning to my studio that day I began working immediately on 12 paintings, simultaneously working on all of them. Although my work is much more gestural and less geometric, Mondrian’s work said something to me about opening up the space. These works are about the passion I obtained from Mondrian’s work to push the boundaries of space and allow the spontaneity to occur mutually. Conversation-like in viewing this work, there is also this excitement reminiscent to when one first falls in love.
