When I paint I most often use paper as a support for watermedia and pastel. I work with pigments, the surface tension of the paper, the way the watermedia blend or repel each other, and the shifting picture plane.
What I trust and look for in a painting is the odd angle or intimation of something weird or quirky that celebrates a sense of place or feeling.
I usually start and complete a painting in a few hours. Sometimes I go back into the painting to bring out certain aspects. It is only after the picture is 'done' that I give it an analytical eye to check for the carrying power of the composition.
